Mad Max

Preparation!

Mad Max will be the first FPV drone I attempt to build and fly. As such I am spending a considerable amount of time both flying in a simulator, as well as chatting with other folk online about what and how to build. I am less concerned with the electronics side of things (I have a degree is EE) however I am a little gun sky about what makes a air worthy drone. I figure I will document the process here.

For those interested in some of the conversations up to this point, check out this Reddit post here.

The Parts List | Drone.

Everything listed out below will specifically for the drone itself. These parts will be one offs meaning if the drone crashes, or I want to build a new one, I will not necessarily be able to reuse them.

  • Frame: GEPRC Mark5 Pro DC O3 Frame - Emerald Green

  • Camera: DJI O3 Air Unit

  • Controller Stack: RUSHFPV RUSH BLADE Stack - F722 DJI FC + 60A 3-6S BLHeli_32 128K Extreme Edition ESC

  • Motors (2020KV): RCINPOWER Wasp Major 22.6-6.5 1860KV/2020KV/2420KV Motor

  • Antenna: RadioMaster RP1 ExpressLRS 2.4GHz Nano Receiver w/ 65mm UFL T-Antenna

  • Props: Gemfan Hurricane 51466 V2 3-Blade Propeller - MCK Edition (Set of 4)

  • GPS: Flywoo GOKU GM10 Nano V3 GPS Module

  • Battery: Tattu R-Line Version 5.0 1400mAh 6S1P150C LiPo Battery

The Parts List | Supporting Items.

Everything listed out below will be in some sense reusable provided I stay within “echo system”. The goggles should support quite a few cameras, the controller should play nice with just about everything, and the smoke stopper, assuming I don’t fry it should last a while.

  • Goggles: DJI Goggles 2

  • RadioMaster Boxer Radio Transmitter w/ LEDs - ELRS 2.4GHz M2 (Transparent)

  • Build Tools: VIFLY ShortSaver 2 - Smart Smoke Stopper XT60 + XT30

The Process.

To Be Documented! This will be my first FPV build, I am currently practicing flying in a simulator. Once I get comfortable with a few of the races, I will start ordering parts and assembling.
